What To Do About Skin Pigmentation

Having had a lot of sun damage to my skin in the past I’ve been trying to correct it for the past couple of years. Whenever I used to put foundation on, my skin tone still looked uneven and I had terrible dark circles under my eyes which couldn’t be covered no matter how much concealer I used. Granted some if it was probably down to pregnancy as well.

I was looking around at what to do and came across a process called IPL photo rejuvenation. The idea is that the laser breaks down the pigmentation which the body then naturally disperses. It’s not the most relaxing of treatments and I did feel some discomfort especially after the first one when I came out looking like a beetroot but within a few hours my skin had calmed down and started to heal. You get tiny little scabs over the areas where the pigmentation has been treated and then within a week it’s gone.

The idea is that afterwards you have a more even skin tone and I have to say it worked fantastically. Each successive treatment worked on stubborn or larger areas and after six sessions my skin looked amazing. I’m supposed to go and have a top up once a year which I haven’t done (oops) but I still look out for skincare which decreases the appearance of pigmentation.

As well as wearing a moisturiser with a high SPF (currently wearing MAC Lightful C SPF30 which appears to have been discontinued) I also wear an additional SPF 50 lotion by Clarins – Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Day Cream which if I’m honest I find a bit greasy so I’m on the lookout for a new day cream with an SPF of at least 50.
