This is an easy to make, delicious drink perfect for Bonfire Night, after a walk in the crisp leaves or even for Christmas Day as an alternative to mulled wine, which I always think tastes quite medicinal, yuk!
Preparation time 30 minutes
Ingredients List – serves 4
1 Litre of dry cider – still is better but won’t matter if you use fizzy
8 Tablespoons of Golden Rum
400ml Apple Juice (best quality you can use)
75 grams Light Muscovado Sugar
1 Orange
2 Cinnamon Sticks
A few cloves or star anise (optional)

Method
Find a large saucepan in which to put the ingredients. Put the cider, apple juice, rum and sugar into the saucepan on a medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Slice up some orange and cut off some larger slices of peel. Add the cinnamon sticks (broken in half) and the star anise or cloves if you are using them. Bring the pan to a simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Serve with a slice of orange.
