How to hygge in the Summer

When we think of hygge we generally think of the winter months but actually it’s something that can be strived for all year round. The definition of hygge is “a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being”.

So the key to this, I think, is to surround yourself with those elements that make you feel good so I got to thinking about what makes me feel nice in the summer months.

Outdoor Living

First of all being outside and the opportunity to use the garden as an outdoor room. It’s only for a few short months that we are able to do this in the UK so it’s important to make the most of it.

Food & Drink

As soon as Wimbledon arrives it’s time to crack on with the cream tea and strawberries! I love a scone but I have to have butter on despite having jam and cream (I’m greedy!) As for drinks, well you can’t beat a good cup of tea even on a hot day but I also love a bit of Pimms.

A place to rest a while

I love a good picnic so when I saw this beautiful rug I had to buy it especially as it’s made from recycled wool – beautiful and sustainable, win win. This is the Jacob tartan blanket by The Tartan Blanket Company and you can choose to buy with or without the leather handle, I went for one in grey and I think it looks stunning and it’s easy to take with you.

A good book

What could be more luxurious than sitting down and indulging in your favourite book for an hour or even an afternoon. I’m fascinated with the Kinfolk movement and I wanted to get the home edition just because I’m super nosy!! The aesthetics are beautiful. The Kinfolk Home

Some cosy footwear

Another luxury come Summer or Winter is a pair of sheepskin slippers. Natural fibres keep your feet beautifully warm without sweating. These women’s sheepskin boots were kindly gifted to me by Celtic & Co and I love the style of them and the bead details.

A favourite item

I couldn’t be without my camera and I’m lucky to have a few because it’s my job. Sometimes it’s fun to go with the Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 because it’s a little bit retro and it’s about capturing the moment rather than the technicalities.
